ScholarShip
One of my dreams is to sail around the world. The price to the dream - 90,000 sing. That's the registration fee required to be part of the Singapore crew that takes part in a round the world Clipper race that sets sail from the Albert Dock in Liverpool and ends where it starts. How appropriate a town it would be to begin and end the fulfillment of my dream.
However, as things are at the moment, it's hard to see myself fulfilling the dream because it's hard to see 90,000 sing. An alternative would be to board the ScholarShip.
The ScholarShip is a collaborative programme between a few universities, among them Berkeley, which allows under and postgraduates to study onboard a ship for 4 months that engines from ancient Greece to cosmopolitan Hong Kong. Technically speaking, I wouldn't be fulfilling my dream by joining the ScholarShip because the ship has no sails. It engines.
However, I think it would be nice if one of you out there who stomachs the dream of seeing the world one day boards the ship and returns to shares the experience. And it would also be very nice if NUS can adopt the ScholarShip as one of its exchange programmes and offers successful applicants sponsership. Because boating around the world is not cheap.
