Iks

Every year in January, my school's sports union (known as Bureau des Sports in French) organizes a weekend ski trip for the student population. Last year, Lida and I signed up for the trip and followed the school to a ski station called La Plagne in the Alps.

The first day at La Plagne was spent accumulating bruises and I wondered if the next two days would just involve further falling and tumbling instead of me cruising down the slopes, as I had imagined myself doing before the trip. However, I was lucky to receive professional guidance from one of my friends called Sylvie, who had skied since young, on the second day and I left La Plagne with grand hopes of conquering the black-coloured trails (supposed to be the most challenging ski trails at the station) in 2008.

Unfortunately, due to the unexpected overwhelming demand for the weekend ski trip, I was unable to secure a place on the trip this year. Registration for the trip had opened at 7am and certain French and Spanish were already queuing outside the Bureau des Sports at 6am. By 8am, all the places were taken and the waiting list was filled. I woke up at 8.30 am that day.

If only I had brought with me a bit of Singaporean's kiasuism to France, I would have camped outside the Bureau des Sports the night before and would have had another ski trip this Jan. Instead, after almost 2 years in France, I have only 1 ski trip to show for. Presenting to you 3 photos from La Plagne 2007:
