The Lan Qiu Shu

I used to dream, during those good o primary school days that one day, I would be able to invent this thing called the Soccer Tree that would bear soccer balls as its fruits. My dream was not borne out of nothing - it was, in fact inspired by the many recesses spent playing soccer with pongpong fruits along one narrow alley of my school.

As most of the guys would know, the pongpong fruit doesn't make for very good kicking material. After a few kicks, its skins would peel off and after that, the fruit becomes 'kickably'-undesirable because we wouldn't want to get our Bata shoes stained by its flesh. At least 3 pongpong fruits had to be sacrificed at each of the soccer session.

The existance of a Soccer Tree would make economic sense since the 'fruit' would be reusable, hence in line with our government's initiative of the 3Rs, and if my invention turns out as planned, it would be edible too. The flesh would be juicy like watermelon. Imagine playing soccer and after the game, we can just peel off the skin and have instant watermelon. Viola! a Nobel-prized worthy invention.

However, few days back, I discovered that someone has beaten me to my dream. Not that it's exactly the same thing but the concept is similar. I present to you, the Lan Qiu Shu:

Wouldn't it be nice if they plant one of these in Chinese High? now, someone's got to start working on the flesh of the balls. =)
