Replying Jeff

Almost one month back, Jeffry sent me an email to my hotmail account. He later told me in gmail about that hotmail email, which I replied, saying that I would not be able to read it as hotmail had suspended my account because I had not been using it since Bush was reelected as Pres. I was only half right.

Hotmail had indeed suspended my account for a short period, removed all the mails in my inbox but after I installed Windows Live Messanger, they restored my account. So, Jeffry's email was not quite lost in transition. And last Sunday, I finally got to read the 23 days old email.

It wasn't the ask-you-how-you-are-and-tell-you-how-he-is kind of email. It was more like a questionnaire.

From jeff:

have you gotten used to using euro?
Is the heat wave still waving?
do you trace the steps of ethan and julie delphy?
staying in dorm?
how many arrogant waitress have you seen?
did you get to see Audrey Tautou?
still continuing pushups?
have you bought tickets to liverpool to catch their first match?
do you want to come home?

As you might have noticed, there wasn't even a Dear Chye. But that was most jeffry-like, because he likes to keep things concise, keep things short, keep things rather neutral, unemotional.

I've digressed. Anyway, I meant to respond to his 'questionnaire' and it is as below:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Jeff,

I wouldn't say I have gotten used to using euro but more like, I have gotten used to converting euro to sing. Just multiply by 2, not that difficult loh.

Heat wave stopped waving once august came. In fact, there was a rather cold period in august but Tai Yang Gong Gong has made a comeback recently. Good news, because the singaporean contingent is planning a picnic by the Eiffel Tower. Yes, go ahead, envy us...haha..

I had not exactly retraced the steps of ethan and julie. I do not know where that bookshop is. You might want to drop me the name and I'll look for it. But I think one day I'll take a boat down La Seine with Yeejia and I think that would be cool. I like the story of the German soldier who refused Hitler's order to blow down the Notre Dame because he felt that it was too beautiful. Apparently, there is a similar story for the Eiffel Tower and the French probably reproduced it for any other monuments in Paris. We really should have something like that for our Esplanade, give it a romantic touch. Something along the line of Osama wanting to send a boat loaded with explosives into the Esplanade during the IMF meet but the terrorist whom he had assigned thought that the Esplanade would be too (spikily) beautiful so he decided to explode himself off the Malacca Straits. I believe the ang mohs will take to the story.

I was staying at La Maison des Mines, which is a student hostel. Dorms, I presume, are those types of accommodation with a few pple sharing a room. I'm not sure. But if that's the definition of dorms, then no, I stayed in a hostel.

In fact, until now, I have yet to come across any arrogant waitress. Maybe because I had not have the opportunity to dine in a french french restaurant. Please don't be mistaken that the two 'french'-es were typos. There are many French Chinese, French Vietnamese, French Thai,French Jap, French Lebanese restaurants in Paris and I believe I've already been to the best Viet and Jap restaurants here. But french french, not yet. On a separate note, a high percentage of the parisiennes (paris girls) are really gorgeous but maybe because I've always have the impression that western babes never quite take to Asian guys, I have not plucked up enough courage to chat one up. I'll do so when I've cut my hair next month.

I saw Audrey on tv. We watch The Spanish Appartment in class. It was good but it would have been better if there were english subtitles.

Pushups have stopped. I need a Tat here to get me going. I only did pushups once while I was still in maison des mines and even then, I only did 50. I will start doing tomorrow. I will.

Oh yes, my flight to Liverpool is on 30 Oct. The flight has been booked but not sure if I will be able to get tickets to watch the Liverpool-Bordeaux match on the 31st. On the Liverpool website, it is mentioned that fans need to have previous round attendance to watch a Champions' League match, which obviously, I don't. I sent them an email but they told me the ticket details for the match have not been released. Anyway, true love never runs smooth and I don't think a dream of a lifetime should be achieved too easily. I resolve to be in Anfield on the 31st.

I hadn't have much problem with homesickness except when I skype with my mother. That is the single most difficult thing in France that I have to face once every week because there's something in her voice that made me want to tear. And I don't want to do that in front of the webcam because I'm ok here and I want to show her that I'm ok. When I'm away from skype, I'm fine.

Take care bro and Ciao,
Chye

P.S. Attached 2 photo that I took last Sunday night after a NUS gathering at this train station called Ave Henri Martin, which is the station near where 8 other NUS-ians are currently residing.
